Morocco Delays Prison Family Visits Until July 13 Amid COVID-19 Concerns

The date for the resumption of family visits for prisoners in Moroccan prisons has been postponed to July 13. The announcement was made on Wednesday by the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Integration (DGAPR).
The DGAPR press release justifies the decision by "the evolution of the epidemiological situation in many cities and areas and in anticipation of any other developments".
Also, the press release specifies, the postponement intervenes in order to spare the prisoners the risk of contracting Covid-19 and to "preserve the security of penitentiary establishments".
The prison administration had taken a series of measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus, starting with the ban on family visits. Added to this are the mandatory confinement of officials and prisoners, the medical visit for new inmates, and hospitalization for any suspected case.
