Morocco Declares Amazigh New Year Official Holiday, King Mohammed VI Announces

The Amazigh New Year will now be an official public holiday in Morocco, according to a decision just made by King Mohammed VI.
"the King has ordered that this day be celebrated, just like the 1st Muharram of the new Hijri year and the Gregorian New Year’s Day," the Royal Cabinet statement said.
In this context, King Mohammed VI has given instructions to the Head of Government to take the necessary measures to implement this royal decision.
This decision is "a realization of the benevolent attention that King Mohammed VI has constantly paid to Amazighity as a main component of the authentic Moroccan identity, rich in its multiple tributaries, and a common heritage to all Moroccans without exception. It also falls within the framework of the constitutional consecration of Amazigh as an official language of the country, alongside the Arabic language."
