Morocco Debates School Year Continuation Amid COVID-19 Challenges

The Moroccan parliament is concerned about the continuation of the school year, suspended due to covid-19. The Education Committee of the House of Representatives will meet on May 13, 2020. The assessment of distance learning, the lifting of confinement and the organization of exams are the points that will be on the agenda of the discussions.
The agenda of the work of the May 13 meeting of the Education Committee of the House of Representatives includes several issues related to the current school year. Saïd Amzazi, the Minister of National Education, is therefore being questioned to respond to the concerns of the parliamentarians.
The daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia reports that the Istiqlal group should discuss the preventive measures implemented to counter the spread of covid-19 in schools. The procedures planned for the organization of exams as well as the prospects for the current school year are also a concern for this group. In the same vein, the Islamist group will be interested in the measures taken at the level of schools and universities, while the socialist group will demand explanations on the first assessments of the measures taken since the beginning of the pandemic. The lifting of confinement in the education system, the assessment of distance learning and the prospects for the current school year are the other subjects that the parliamentarians will not forget to discuss.
Moreover, in an interview given on Thursday, May 7, to the Al Oula, 2M and Medi 1 TV channels, El Othmani declared that four public channels are providing lessons to students. In a context where distance learning has produced satisfactory results, in addition to the fact that the courses given have reached 70% before the crisis, the hypothesis of a white year is to be ruled out, indicated the Head of Government.
In any case, the government is working to solve all the problems related to the organization of exams and the success of the current school year, reassured the Head of Government.
