Morocco Debates Privacy Concerns in COVID-19 Contact Tracing App

The National Commission for the Control of the Protection of Personal Data has reacted to the issue of the covid-19 contamination tracking application decided by the Moroccan government to fight against the spread of the pandemic.
In a press release, the CNDP recalled that the government must not make the mistake of fighting for the collective interest. It recommends that "the use of this type of application be deployed on the basis of a voluntary trust and not on the basis of an obligation difficult to implement".
According to the commission, "the implementation of such a measure must not affect digital trust". "A set of rules must be respected when collecting and using personal data, such as the non-use of personal data for purposes other than those provided for, the destruction of the data collected and generated at the end of the state of health emergency, except those that can feed, in an anonymized and regulatory manner, scientific research," it recommends.
Given the sensitivity of the subject, the CNDP also recommends that the administration not resort to the acquisition of a black box. According to the commission, it must have complete control over the developed codes and the architectures implemented.
