Morocco Debates Citizenship Rights for Returning ISIS Fighters

Abdellatif Ouahbi, Secretary General of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), also chairman of the ad hoc parliamentary information commission, opposes a possible deprivation of nationality of former Moroccan Daesh fighters.
Punishing former Moroccan Daesh fighters for the mistakes they have made does not mean depriving them of their citizenship, because those who pay the highest price in this case are the children, he said at a press conference. He said his commission has looked into the issue and is looking for solutions to the issue of the return of former Moroccan Islamic State fighters, which has security, educational and economic aspects. According to him, the deprivation of their nationality is not a viable solution.
Parliamentary information commissions not only have the mission of asking the government to account, but also to find solutions and help it solve complex problems, recalled the PAM leader. He also said that there have been unofficial meetings with the Red Cross, the presentation of data and figures on this file as well as an approach to this problem by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Interior.
