Morocco Resumes Daylight Saving Time as Ramadan Ends

The government had approved in October 2018 the decree establishing the maintenance of daylight saving time (GMT+1) throughout the year. This decree, which provides for the possible change of time by government decision, in this case during the holy month of Ramadan, had not been unanimous at the time.

The protests had not succeeded in changing the government’s mind. For the Executive, this decision would be justified by "energy savings", but also by the "negative" impact of the repeated change of time during the year on the health of Moroccans.

According to an evaluation study conducted by the Ministry of Public Sector Reform, the maintenance of daylight saving time had nevertheless been recommended. Much to the chagrin of Moroccans who wanted to return to GMT time, this study revealed a "positive" balance of the permanent maintenance of the GMT+1 time zone, it is specified.
