Morocco Cuts Ferry Prices by 20% for Expatriates Traveling Home This Summer

The increase in ferry ticket prices between Morocco and Spain is causing concern among Moroccans living abroad (MRE), many of whom are going to Morocco this year to see their loved ones. The Moroccan Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, spoke on the issue during the session at the House of Representatives.
Abdeljalil said that his ministry has encouraged international maritime transport companies to reduce their fares during this period of high traffic. Despite the liberalization of the maritime transport sector and the influence of supply and demand, discussions with operators have led to a 20% reduction in prices by some companies, he said.
The minister stated that ferry tickets are now available at reduced rates - 5,100 dirhams for a round trip for a car with four passengers between Tanger Med and Algeciras, and 4,300 dirhams between Ceuta and Algeciras, a saving of 1,100 dirhams per family compared to the initial prices in June. The minister also recalled that the Moroccan government has set up a fleet of 32 ships operating on twelve maritime lines, ensuring a total of 538 crossings per week, to facilitate the return of MREs. This fleet can accommodate more than 500,000 passengers and about 136,000 vehicles per week.
