Morocco Cracks Down on YouTubers as Cybercrime Law Tightens

After the arrest of YouTuber Moul Kasketa for broadcasting a video deemed "insulting", the public prosecutor’s office intends to strictly apply certain provisions contained in the penal code.
Unscrupulous YouTubers will now face the rigor of the law. The public prosecutor’s office has decided to apply the provisions of Articles 179 and 180 of the penal code to them.
This toughening of the law follows the arrest of YouTuber "Moul Kasketa". On November 29, he had broadcast a video containing "insulting and defamatory remarks about Moroccans and their constitutional institutions," recalls the newspaper Assabah.
The judicial police officers of Settat seized a small quantity of cannabis that he was consuming for personal use and electronic devices during his arrest, said the King’s Prosecutor Zine El Abidine Khalifi.
After his custody, the defendant was transferred to the headquarters of the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) in charge of further investigating the content of his videos.
