Morocco Cracks Down on Undervalued Turkish Textile Imports

The sharp increase in customs duties on Turkish textile products has pushed some companies in Morocco and Turkey to understate the value of their imports.
The Customs Administration has long put in place tools to systematically correct the value of declared products. This did not prevent importers from trying to find loopholes.
The recent increase in customs duties on Turkish products has led to a standoff with Turkish suppliers, who fear losing their market share in the country.
To remedy this, the latter reduce the declared value by nearly 25%, in order to allow Moroccan importers to maintain their margins, notes Assabah.
By relying on a data exchange system with other countries, Moroccan customs officials have managed to detect anomalies in the declarations, writes the newspaper.
