Morocco Cracks Down on Tourist Rentals Amid Health Concerns

Law enforcement officers are conducting inspections in several furnished apartments intended for rental in the tourist cities of Fès, Marrakech, Agadir and Tanger.
The aim is to ensure the health status of citizens and landlords who have had direct contact with tourists from China, Italy, or France.
This is an inspection campaign led by the Ministry of the Interior with owners of furnished apartments intended for rental. On the ground, the police elements are checking the identity of tourists who have occupied these apartments over the last three months.
Similarly, they ensure that the owners respect the decision to ban renting out housing before the lifting of the state of health emergency. Since these homes often host festive evenings.
On Friday, March 20, the Ministry of the Interior had declared a state of health emergency in order to fight against the progression of the coronavirus pandemic in the kingdom. In this sense, measures have been taken, including the prohibition of renting housing to any natural or legal person.
