Morocco Cracks Down on Street Vendors in Northern Cities

Just like Tétouan, the other cities of northern Morocco are interested in the liberation of public spaces, in view of the proliferation of street vendors in the summer. This project is applauded by representatives of civil society and residents who have always called for the authorities to intervene to address this scourge.
For the newspaper Aujourd’hui le Maroc, this liberation campaign is extending to other cities in the North, namely Chefchaouen and Asilah. In Chefchaouen, where the occupation of the public domain is generally due to anarchy and the bad mood of pedestrians, the local authorities have been tough on street vendors.
Other natural and historical sites, including the Ras El Ma spring, are also the target of this operation, which is already bearing fruit. In Assilah, the hunt for the various types of squatters of public spaces has been a success on Avenue Hassan II.
In addition to street vendors, parasol renters have also been sent back from the municipal beaches of Tangier, to the great satisfaction of citizens who have repeatedly expressed their discontent against this abusive exploitation of the coastline, reports the same source.
As for the evacuation operation on the Tangier corniche, it has allowed the city of the Strait to regain its charm among the choice sites for national and international visitors. Seduced by the success of these operations, Tangier wants to extend this "Knockout" operation to other urban areas.
