Morocco Cracks Down on Pharmacies for Price Gouging Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

Several pharmacies have been closed in the kingdom for profiteering. The Ministry of the Interior made this decision after members of the Economic Monitoring Committee for monitoring the repercussions of the coronavirus and identifying support measures visited pharmacies in the city of Marrakech.
The Wali of Marrakech-Safi, Governor of Marrakech, Karim Kassou Lahlou, proceeded to close a pharmacy in his territory, reports Al Massae. This pharmacy is accused of profiteering. It was selling protective masks for 5 dirhams each instead of 80 cents each, a price set by law. On Tuesday, a pharmacy in the M’hamid district was closed in the ochre city for the same offense.
The closure of these pharmacies follows a control visit by a team from the Economic Monitoring Committee for monitoring the repercussions of the coronavirus and identifying support measures. The members of the delegation found that the price of protective masks had been inflated.
