Morocco Cracks Down on Mosque Utility Abuse, Orders Imams to Install Personal Meters

Faced with rising bills, the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs has asked the imams and muezzins of the Sefrou province to have their personal water and electricity meters installed, rather than taking advantage of those in their official residences.
The Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs indicates in a note that it has "noted a sharp increase in water and electricity bills in certain mosques, resulting from the connection of their meters to certain installations that are not part of the mosque’s services or due to illegal exploitation."
This directive was taken to put an end to these abuses by certain imams and muezzins in the Sefrou province who use household appliances (electric water heaters, dishwashers and washing machines, etc.) in their official residences.
Following the instructions of the ministry, the provincial delegation of Sefrou has asked the imams and muezzins residing in their official residences to have their personal water and electricity meters installed as soon as possible, announcing the separation of the mosque meters from their official residences.
