Morocco Cracks Down on Highway Towing Abuses

The National Motorway Company of Morocco (ADM) is reacting to complaints about extortion and abuse by towing and assistance companies on the motorways.
In a letter addressed to the Democratic Organization of Multimodal Transport and Logistics, the National Motorway Company of Morocco (ADM) stated that it is subjecting the invoices and rates of these companies to an audit and taking punitive measures against offenders. The pricing of the services of these companies is determined according to several factors, including the motorway section concerned, the number of kilometers traveled by the assistance unit, as well as the category of the vehicle and the type of service required, ADM specified.

Regarding the assistance service, the company explained that it is organized by granting intervention licenses to qualified assistance companies, selected through transparent and rigorous tender procedures. The national motorway operator requires these companies to clearly display their authorizations on their vehicles, in addition to the adopted rate schedule. This service is also one of the fundamental pillars of the measures put in place to ensure the safety of motorway users.
Among the actions taken by ADM, we note unannounced inspection visits to towing and assistance companies to verify their compliance with the specifications, and the establishment of several channels allowing motorway users to obtain information on the accredited units and the applicable rates, in particular through the 5050 call center, which provides information on the accredited companies and the current rates. The company also offers the possibility to file complaints and requests for information.
Through the ADM Trafic application, users can obtain real-time information on the state of the roads and the applicable rates, in addition to the contact details of the authorized entities to provide assistance services.
