Morocco Cracks Down on Counterfeit Phone Chargers and Batteries to Protect Consumers

The Ministry of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy, in collaboration with the services of the Ministry of the Interior, is continuing its campaign to control the compliance of chargers and batteries for mobile phones, marketed on the local market.
The fight against the non-compliance of chargers and batteries for mobile phones, sold on the local market, has been a reality since September 11.
In the lead, the Ministry of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy is working in good cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior, to achieve the set objectives.
The campaign to control the compliance of chargers and batteries for mobile phones aims to protect the consumer from the incidents often caused by the use of these accessories. Specifically, this campaign aims to raise awareness among distributors of these products, including retailers, about their legal and regulatory obligations.
It is also a question of improving the commercial practices of these products. In the long run, fair competition will be established between economic operators. In addition, this campaign strengthens the control operations of charger imports at the border posts of the Kingdom.
Already, convincing results have been recorded. In total, more than 300,000 non-compliant units have been banned from entering Moroccan territory during the first eight months of 2019, including a shipment containing 159,000 non-compliant chargers at the Guerguerat border post.
These control operations are in line with the National Investigation Plan on seven sectors: household appliances, gas appliances, automotive spare parts, electrical products, toys, textiles and clothing, and school supplies. This Plan was launched at the beginning of 2019.
