Morocco’s Covid Vaccination Drive Slows as Supplies Dwindle, New Doses Expected

Morocco, which aims to immunize 80% of its population, is facing a slowdown in the pace of Covid-19 vaccinations. This slowdown is linked to the decline in vaccine stocks. But the authorities are reassuring, announcing an imminent delivery of some 2.15 million doses to avoid interruption of the vaccination campaign.
With only 172,031 people vaccinated on Friday, June 11, the pace of Covid-19 vaccinations has slowed down significantly, notes Le360, which specifies that only 2,983 people in this group have received their first dose.
The same source notes that these figures are far down compared to previous days and that this slowdown in injections means that the stock of vaccines available in Morocco is dwindling. However, the situation is far from worrying the Moroccan authorities, who announce the imminent arrival of a large delivery that will revitalize the vaccination campaign in the kingdom.
"We are expecting to receive a new delivery of vaccines very soon, which will allow us to resume the usual pace of injections," Moulay Said Afif, a member of the technical committee in charge of the vaccination operation, told Le360.
This is the delivery of a batch of 1.5 million doses out of the 10 million promised by the President of the National People’s Assembly of China, Li Zhanshu. Another batch of about 650,000 doses of the British-Swedish laboratory AstraZeneca, as part of the 1.6 million vaccines from the WHO’s Covax program, is also expected to be delivered to Morocco.
