Morocco’s COVID-19 Vaccination Drive Gains Momentum as Over 300,000 Receive Shots

Launched on January 28 by King Mohammed VI, the national Covid-19 vaccination campaign is going well. Health Minister Khaled Aït Taleb has announced that nearly 308,308 people have already been vaccinated, and citizens continue to flock to vaccination centers.
The vaccination operation organized in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior and all stakeholders is progressing well, the minister said to the press, on the sidelines of a visit to several vaccination centers in the Marrakech-Safi region.
The minister also recalled the need to respect barrier gestures, so that the objective of eradicating this evil is achieved, while emphasizing the necessity of the second dose of the vaccine as part of the immunization of citizens. Following the royal instructions, the vaccination campaign will be free for all, will be carried out progressively by batches, and will benefit all Moroccan citizens and residents aged 17 and over, i.e. 80% of the population.
The Minister of Economy and Public Sector Reform, Mohamed Benchaâboun, for his part, stressed that this vaccination campaign is fueling hearts with a new hope, with promising growth prospects for the national economy in 2021. He is also confident that from the second half of 2021, the Moroccan economy could experience strong growth, given that the forecasts for Morocco are between 4% and 5% for 2021.
Addressing the Unique Social Register (RSU), the minister affirmed that it is a structural reform aimed at establishing a support system for vulnerable social groups without direct targeting. The RSU makes it possible to set up a reliable database based on factual information, he added, promising that by 2022, the first version of the RSU will be ready. The RSU is also part of the reforms to be carried out in the future to successfully reform the compensation system, he concluded.
