Morocco’s COVID-19 Response Praised as Model for Crisis Management

In an analysis, Chadi Rhanja Benamor and FranceSoir have praised Morocco’s prowess in managing covid-19.
"In these times of crisis, many governments have been overwhelmed by the management of the health crisis of the coronavirus and its unpredictable repercussions. Morocco is doing much better than some and is even becoming a model," say the authors. For them, this management is due to two factors: foreign experiences and the time factor on the one hand, the modernization and digitization of Moroccan institutions that were quietly underway on the other. "Covid-19 has helped lift the veil on the various actions taken by Morocco," they point out.
"The time factor and the response were quick: the majority of countries struggling to manage the covid-19 crisis have not had, or taken, the time to prepare well. In Morocco, the danger of covid-19 was felt by observing the spread of the virus in Italy. Flights from Italy and the most affected countries were controlled, something impossible to do within the European Union since the borders were open. When covid-19 invaded Europe, Morocco decided to close its borders and manage the pandemic internally," the authors note.
Establishment of the special covid-19 fund, simple information and media coverage, country-wide coverage, state of health emergency, containment, large-scale national production of masks, gowns and devices, purchase of medical equipment, distance learning, establishment of the Economic Monitoring Council... According to Chadi Rhanja Benamor and FranceSoir, the implementation of these measures has enabled the kingdom to effectively manage the health crisis related to covid-19.
"Post-crisis Morocco is preparing now with the awareness of the important changes that are coming and will continue in the world. [...] Having initiated the debate on the post-coronavirus period is of great lucidity, as it allows the collective intelligence to take its place in the development of the world after," they praise.
