Morocco’s COVID-19 Reproduction Rate Rises to 1.22 as Cases Surge

The coordinator of the National Public Health Emergency Operations Center at the Ministry of Health, Mouad Mrabet, indicated on Tuesday that the Covid-19 reproduction rate has reached 1.22 nationwide. This was during his presentation of the biweekly report on the country’s epidemiological situation.
In his presentation, Mouad Mrabet stressed that this rate is due to the significant increase in the number of people infected with Covid-19 nationwide, "since we are recording record figures every day, particularly 259,951 positive cases as of Monday, November 9, with a cumulative incidence rate of 715.8/100,000 inhabitants," he said.
The coordinator of the National Public Health Emergency Operations Center indicated that the number of deaths recorded since the beginning of the pandemic until November 9 is 4,356, i.e. a fatality rate of 1.7%, and the number of people declared cured has reached 212,905, i.e. a remission rate of 81.9%.
Regarding the ranking at the continental and global level, Morocco is in 32nd place in the world and 2nd in Africa in terms of the number of infections. As for the number of deaths, the country is ranked 36th worldwide and 3rd in Africa. In terms of testing, it is ranked 34th internationally and 2nd on the African continent.
The ministry’s biweekly report also addressed the launch, in the coming weeks, of a massive Covid-19 vaccination operation, which concerns citizens over the age of 18, according to a vaccination schedule in two injections. The coordinator called for compliance with preventive health measures for an effective fight against the virus.
