Morocco’s COVID-19 Mortality Rate Not Alarming, Expert Says

While some believe that the mortality rate is alarming in Morocco, Mustapha Ennaji, virologist and director of the virology laboratory at the University of Hassan II in Casablanca, thinks otherwise.
"We must not forget that Morocco recorded its first case only on March 2. It has only been 30 days since we have been recording cases, and we have accumulated 791 for 48 deaths. If we compare ourselves to other countries, this figure is not as high as that," estimates Mustapha Ennaji. For the virologist, there is no reason to be alarmed for the moment. Especially since there was no treatment against coronavirus.
"The treatment of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial treatment that has shown its effectiveness against covid-19. But it is not a treatment that is specific to covid-19. Today, it is the only treatment that is effective against the disease and patients can therefore benefit from it in Morocco," he says, rejoicing that the Ministry of Health has authorized it, and has in fact purchased the entire Sanofi stock. According to the director of the virology laboratory at the University of Hassan II in Casablanca, it is available in all hospitals in the country.
