Morocco’s COVID-19 Cases Surge as Eid Al Adha Celebrations Raise Lockdown Fears

The epidemiological situation in Morocco is becoming increasingly worrying. On Thursday, the eve of the celebration of Eid Al Adha, a new record of infections was recorded with 1,046 new cases.
The balance sheet of the pandemic in Morocco, on the eve of Eid Al Adha, gives 5,602 positive cases, including 79 in critical condition, and 353 deaths.
By deciding to maintain the celebration of Eid Al Adha, despite this alarming epidemiological situation, the kingdom runs the risk of a new lockdown. Yet the cancellation of Eid Al Adha, which is fully justified in this crisis period, would have made it possible to avoid the worst, especially after the decision to ban travel to and from several cities, taken on Sunday.
A decision that led to a rush of travelers to bus and train stations and thousands of motorists on the roads and highways, in violation of all health measures.
One thing is certain. The number of Covid-19 infections will increase significantly after the celebration of Eid.
Morocco, which was nevertheless cited as an example for its proactive management of the health crisis, is gradually becoming one of the countries most infected by Covid-19, due to the indiscipline of Moroccans who trample on health measures.
