Morocco Court Sentences 9 to 51 Years in Terrorism-Related Cases

Nine individuals were sentenced by the Court of Appeal to a total of 51 years in prison in eight separate cases related to terrorism. The defendants were prosecuted on several counts.
These defendants were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 3 to 8 years for a total of 51 years spread over eight cases related to acts of terrorism.
According to Al Akhbar, these defendants were prosecuted for forming a gang with the aim of preparing and committing terrorist acts seriously undermining the security of the State, non-denunciation, glorification and incitement to terrorism.
The same media reports that the court sentenced, in the same case, two defendants from northern Morocco, to prison sentences of 6 and 8 years.
From the investigations, it is learned that these two individuals, who wanted to join Syria, before being arrested, had glorified on social networks the savage crime of two Scandinavian tourists in Chamharouch in the El Haouz region.
Worse, the same investigation reveals that the two accomplices were planning, together with two other defendants, attacks in Fnideq under the banner of the terrorist organization, Daesh.
Even when they refuted these accusations, the Public Prosecutor’s Office demanded the heaviest sentences against them, citing the seriousness of the crimes revealed by the police investigations.
As for the second case, it concerns a 17-year-old minor, sentenced to 5 years in prison, reports the daily Al Akhbar. After failing in his attempt to join Daesh in Syria, he turned to the manufacture of explosives in order to carry out attacks on tourist sites in the Taroudant region, where he is from.
But, before making this choice, the young minor had glorified the terrorist acts committed by Daesh in Morocco, Syria and Iraq.
