Morocco Court Reduces Sentence in Deadly Tainted Alcohol Case

The case of the death of about ten people who consumed adulterated alcohol in the Ksar El Kébir region has just reached its conclusion.
The criminal appeals chamber of the Tangier court has just handed down its judgment in this case. Thus, the main accused, initially sentenced to 15 years in prison at first instance, saw his sentence reduced to 12 years on appeal. The other people involved, who had been convicted by the court of first instance, were acquitted on appeal.
On September 27, 2022, the police had arrested a man with a criminal record, for his alleged involvement in the sale of adulterated alcohol that caused the death of nine of his customers and the poisoning of several other people.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) had indicated that it had opened an investigation following this tragedy, which resulted in the arrest of a 48-year-old man and his minor son suspected of having participated in these criminal acts. During the search of the quinquagenarian’s store, the investigators seized 49 liters of contraband alcohol.
