Morocco’s Consumer Price Index Rises 0.4% as Food Costs Climb

The cost of living remains high in Morocco. This is indicated by the report of the High Commission for Planning (HCP).
The consumer price index recorded a 0.4% increase in November 2019 compared to the previous month, according to a report by the High Commission for Planning (HCP). According to the same source, this variation is the result of a 1.0% increase in the index of food products and the stagnation of the index of non-food products.
"Vegetables", "fruits", "milk, cheese and eggs", "fish and seafood", "meats", "oils and fats" are the food products that experienced an increase between October and November 2019, with respective rates of 2.2%, 2.0%, 1.8%, 1.7%, 1.2% and 0.7%. In the category of non-food products, only the prices of "fuels" recorded a 1.3% decrease.
Comparing with the same month of the previous year, the consumer price index recorded a 0.4% increase in November 2019. This is the result of a 0.6% increase in the index of non-food products and the stagnation of that of food products. In the category of non-food products, "Transport" experienced a 0.3% decrease, while "Education" recorded a 2.7% increase.
