Morocco Considers Vaccine Passports for Domestic Travel Amid COVID-19 Surge

Inter-city travel in Morocco could now be conditional on the presentation of a Covid-19 vaccination certificate. This is the proposal made by the National Technical and Scientific Advisory Committee on Vaccination and already in execution in Rabat.
The committee made this proposal due to the pandemic situation, which requires a regulatory framework to curb its spread, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. Thus, the exceptional travel authorization issued by the competent local authorities for professional or personal travel will be replaced by the vaccination certificate issued just after the injection of the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Thus, "the vaccine remains, for the time being, the only effective means to achieve collective immunity in order to stop the spread of the new coronavirus Covid-19 and ensure a return to normal life as soon as possible," the sources of the newspaper indicate, stressing that this procedure is already being implemented in the Rabat prefecture, pending its generalization to the entire kingdom.
Furthermore, the state of health emergency will be extended until May 10, the sources of the newspaper inform, reminding citizens to strictly respect the measures in force, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, in order to avoid the increase in Covid-19 cases recorded last year during the Eid al-Adha celebration. Moroccans are urged to be more vigilant and socially supportive over the next three months to overcome this pandemic.
