Morocco Considers TikTok Ban as Parliament Debates Social Media Regulation

The issue of banning TikTok, suggested by several Moroccan deputies, should be addressed during the next session of the Moroccan Parliament, which begins in October.
Ban or regulate TikTok? Morocco is still looking for the solution. The Moroccan Parliament will meet again in October and will look into the issue. The Education, Culture and Communication Commission in the House of Representatives intends to reintroduce a bill aimed at banning TikTok in Morocco. Last December, the deputy of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), Hanane Atarguine, had questioned the government on this subject, asking to know the measures it intends to take to protect minors from the "harmful" effects of this application with "mediocre" content and conveying "values that affect the dignity of Moroccans".
The deputies are preparing to re-examine the proposal in October, and the discussion will likely focus on finding a balance between maintaining social norms and managing the growing influence of digital media. Growing concerns about the platform’s influence on societal values, particularly its impact on the country’s youth, motivate the reintroduction of the bill. Many Moroccans have expressed their discomfort with the type of content shared and its potential effects on the young audience. Banning or restricting
