Morocco Considers Tighter Entry Rules Amid Concerns Over Algerian Visitors

The recent arrival in Morocco of Algerian personalities and delegations is causing concerns. Some consider it a provocation, while others fear an attack on the territorial integrity of the kingdom.
Recently, the former candidate in the Algerian presidential elections (and in France) Rachid Nekkaz, visited Marrakech. In a video recorded in front of the Koutoubia Mosque, he challenged Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara based on erroneous historical data.
Activists have called on social media for the government and in particular the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take strict measures to limit these entries. They are asking the authorities to impose an electronic visa or prior entry authorization for all foreigners, especially those who do not recognize the Moroccanness of the Sahara.
The activists also stressed the need to distinguish between genuine tourists and those hostile to Morocco who could undermine its symbols and territorial integrity.
They also called on the authorities to tighten the conditions for issuing visas to these people with dubious intentions in order to preserve the territorial integrity of the kingdom, which is preparing to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup.
