Morocco Considers Suspending Friday Prayers Amid Coronavirus Concerns

Morocco is about to ban the Friday prayer. This national concern is currently under consideration, according to the head of government, and could be validated on Friday, March 20, given the evolution of the epidemiological situation.
Like some other countries, Morocco may suspend the Friday congregational prayer to avoid the risks of contagion of the epidemic raging in the kingdom. Since the strengthening of restrictions to contain the spread, the question of maintaining or not maintaining collective prayers has become acute.
According to Medias24, the final decision will probably be guided by the legal rule "Preventing harm takes precedence over seeking good", especially in these difficult times when Morocco is fighting the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
Pending this decision, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs has instituted more stringent rules for the disinfection of mosques. In last Friday’s sermons, the faithful were made aware of the coronavirus, its modes of transmission and the necessary distance, as well as the strictest observance of hygiene, especially of the hands.
It should be noted that a certain decrease in attendance at the Friday prayer has been observed in Morocco in recent days.
