Morocco Considers Partial Lockdown as COVID-19 Cases Surge

Increase in Covid-19 infection rates, deaths and admissions to intensive care, the health situation is very worrying in Morocco. Faced with this observation, new measures, including partial confinement, are being studied to limit the spread of the virus.

The number of positive Covid-19 cases continues to rise in the Kingdom. From 2,800 to 3,577, the number of positive cases has risen to 4,115 per day in less than a week. The number of deaths has increased from 38 to 53 per day and the admission rate to intensive care has reached 26% nationally and 60% in Casablanca. Alerted, the government is considering the option of a partial confinement, proposed by the High Commission for Planning (HCP) to avoid a possible increase, reports the daily Assabah.

Given the scale, the wilaya of the Casablanca-Settat region had urged, through a press release, "road users who do not have exceptional authorization to access the metropolis, to use the outer ring road, if they are transiting through the city to other destinations". In the same press release, it stressed that "non-compliance with this decision is punishable by the sanctions provided for by the decree relating to the state of health emergency".
