Morocco Considers Extending State of Emergency Amid Rising COVID-19 Cases

One of the items on the agenda at next Thursday’s Council of Government meeting is the extension of the state of emergency. With the resurgence of new infections, the government could decide to extend it for another month.
Infections remain very high in the country. Yesterday, Monday, 2,533 active cases were recorded in 24 hours. In addition to the draft on the extension of the state of emergency, two other drafts are also on the agenda, according to a statement from the government’s office.
These are the texts relating to the enactment of exceptional measures for the benefit of certain employers of the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), their employees declared to the fund. They also concern certain categories of self-employed and non-salaried workers insured with this fund, affected by the repercussions of the Covid-19 epidemic and this, in the sub-sectors related to events and catering, as well as in game and entertainment spaces.
The agreement on maritime fisheries cooperation between the Government of Morocco and the Russian Federation, signed on September 14, 2020 in Rabat and on October 14 in Moscow, is also on the program with a draft law approving this agreement, the same statement specifies. The other item on the agenda is the examination of proposals for appointments to senior positions in accordance with Article 92 of the Constitution.
