Morocco Considers Extending 15-Day Paternity Leave to Private Sector Workers

The 15-day paternity leave granted to public sector civil servants could be extended to the private sector. The government will submit this proposal during the next social dialogue negotiations.
The draft law relating to the General Statute of the Civil Service amending the current provisions of the statute relating to the procedures and procedures for maternity and paternity was approved during the government council held on Thursday, said government spokesman Mustapha Baitas.
Ultimately, the new provision will allow male civil servants to benefit from a 15-day paternity leave, he specified. As for female civil servants, they will be entitled to a breastfeeding authorization set at one hour per day, from the end of their maternity leave, until the child reaches the age of 24 months.
Regarding the complaints of private sector employees on the subject, the minister said he did not rule out the possibility that this demand for paternity leave could be put on the table of negotiations during the next rounds of social dialogue.
