Morocco Considers Decriminalizing Alcohol Sale and Consumption in Legal Reform

More details are known about the reform of the Code of Criminal Procedure pending adoption in Morocco. According to the explanations provided by the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, this reform intends, among other things, to introduce the decriminalization of the sale and consumption of alcohol.
It was during a debate on Tuesday evening with Nabil Benabdallah, Secretary General of the PPS, that the Minister of Justice provided some details, stressing that he will only present the final version of the Code of Criminal Procedure to Parliament in 2023. "It is I who will preside over the drafting of this new text and it is I, as Minister of Justice, who will ensure the finalization of the future Code of Criminal Procedure," said the PAM leader.
For the official, it is unacceptable for the justice system to continue to punish alcohol consumers when they are required to pay taxes. "I find it absurd that on the one hand, an alcohol consumer pays taxes on alcohol and on the other, we repress him by sending him to prison," for having consumed this alcohol, he said.
