Morocco Considers Border Reopening for Marhaba Operation, Pending Vaccination Progress

Morocco could reopen its borders if the vaccination rate is high in the kingdom as in Spain in order to allow the organization of the Marhaba Operation. But nothing is certain for the moment. The Operation should be ensured by the boats.
Morocco could reopen its borders and organize the Marhaba Operation, even if for the moment, no official voice has confirmed the information. But everything will depend on the evolution of the vaccination campaign in Morocco and Spain. In Morocco, the vaccination rate should reach 70% by the summer.
Thus, the Transit Operation could take place normally if the epidemiological situation improves. In this case, shipping companies will be called upon to operate regular connections between Algeciras and Tanger Med, with departures almost every hour.
According to well-informed sources, this would be the option chosen by Morocco to organize the Marhaba Operation 2021 by using the large boarding quay of the second port of Tangier, in order to avoid gatherings at the Ceuta border.
The two countries are also studying the requirements to be imposed on travelers, such as the presentation of negative PCR tests and compliance with social distancing on board the ships according to their capacities in order to avoid any contagion.
