Morocco Considers Border Reopening as COVID Situation Improves

The Moroccan authorities hope for an improvement in the epidemiological situation in the kingdom and in the world, to reopen the borders in the coming weeks.
Faced with numerous criticisms and calls denouncing the "unjustified" prolongation of the closure of the borders, the government has once again spoken on the subject.
"The government is thinking about this point and will take the necessary measures depending on the pandemic situation and the recommendations of the scientific commission. We hope to be able to reopen the borders in the coming weeks," said government spokesman Mustapha Baitas.
When questioned about the state of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Spain and South Africa, the spokesman indicated that the government is following the referential framework laid down by the King of Morocco, insisting on two essential principles, namely, "ambition and clarity" in bilateral relations.
"The ambition exists because Spain has expressed it, (but) if this ambition is consolidated, we need clarity," he specified.
