Morocco to Consider Cannabis Legalization Bill Amid Ongoing Health Emergency

The draft law on the legal use of cannabis will be examined during the Council of Government meeting to be held this Thursday, a statement from the Department of the Head of Government said on Monday. The extension of the state of health emergency will also be at the heart of the discussions.
Under the chairmanship of the Head of Government, Saâd Eddine El Othmani, the Council will first look at the draft law on the legal use of cannabis, the statement said. It will then examine three draft decrees. The first concerns the extension of the state of health emergency throughout the national territory in order to fight against the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).
The second is related to the application of certain provisions of the first annex of the Dahir forming the maritime commercial code relating to fishing vessels. As for the third, it concerns the application of the law relating to the protection of persons participating in biomedical research.
The Council will also study the cooperation agreement in the field of tourism, concluded on October 22, 2020 in Rabat between the Moroccan and Central African governments, adds the statement, which announces that the Council will conclude its work by examining proposals for appointments to senior positions, in accordance with the provisions of Article 92 of the Constitution.
