Morocco confirms its rise to power in Africa
Morocco is consolidating its strategic position in the African skies. According to the latest ranking of a specialized platform, the Kingdom has the fourth largest military fleet on the continent, with a strategy focused on technological modernization and the integration of cutting-edge platforms rather than just numerical accumulation.
The Royal Air Force (RAF) is confirming its rise in power. With an inventory of 271 aircraft, Morocco has risen to the fourth position among the air powers in Africa. The report from "The African Exponent" highlights a doctrine based on "quality and diversity", combining F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters, C-130 Hercules transport aircraft, Eurocopter helicopters and a growing fleet of surveillance and combat drones.
This structure allows the Kingdom to manage a dual imperative: to ensure a robust conventional defense while maintaining a rapid response capability for counter-insurgency. The study highlights the crucial role of cooperation with the United States and European suppliers, guaranteeing access to advanced technologies, pilot training programs and a high-performance logistics maintenance infrastructure to support high operational availability.
At the continental level, Egypt dominates the ranking with more than 1,080 aircraft (F-16, Rafale, Su-35), followed by other regional powers such as Algeria and Angola (278 aircraft). However, the report insists that the size of the fleet is no longer the sole determinant of power: modernization, system integration and operational strategy are now the key factors in addressing the evolving security challenges in North Africa.
