Morocco Climbs One Spot in Global Press Freedom Index, Challenges Remain

Morocco has gained one place in the latest annual ranking of Reporters Without Borders (RSF), which nevertheless warned of a precarious situation for independent media in the kingdom.
More specifically, Morocco ranks 135th out of 180 countries in the new World Press Freedom Index published by the organization, thus gaining one place compared to the previous year.
RSF considers the kingdom to be part of the "difficult" situation zone, along with several other African countries, particularly those in North Africa.
Among the criticisms addressed to Morocco by the NGO are "continuous pressure" on independent journalists, the sources of information for the Moroccan population being currently limited to social networks and the internet.
In the Maghreb, Tunisia remains the best ranked at 94th place, followed by Mauritania at 97th, while Algeria is 134th.
