Morocco Clears Land for Kénitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail Expansion

The authorities of the province of Settat have announced the completion of the expropriation formalities for 996 plots covering a total area of 552 hectares to allow the construction of the high-speed line (LGV) connecting Kénitra to Marrakech.

This project crosses the province over a distance of 63.5 kilometers and the local authorities had undertaken administrative procedures to expropriate land in order to facilitate its implementation. This is now done. The expropriation procedure is completed and was carried out in accordance with law 07.81 for reasons of public utility, it is assured.

The expropriated plots are located in several communes in the province, including Sidi El Aïdi, Settat, Mzamza Sud, El Houaza, Khemisset Chaouia, Sidi Mohammed Ben Rahal and Machraa Ben Abbou, according to a statement from the prefecture. During a meeting chaired on Friday by the governor of the province, he stressed the need to compensate the owners of the expropriated land and to accelerate the amicable compensation procedures for the persons concerned.

On this occasion, a progress report on the project was presented. The fourth section, covering the communes of Sidi El Aïdi, Settat, Mzamza Sud and El Houaza, has been entrusted to a Moroccan company for a cost of 2.362 billion dirhams. The duration of the work is 33 months. As for the fifth section, crossing the communes of Khemisset Chaouia, Sidi Mohammed Ben Rahal and Machraa Ben Abbou, it will be executed by a Chinese company for an amount of 1.529 billion dirhams and for the same duration.
