Morocco’s CDT Party Proposes Ban on Corrupt Officials Running for Office

To declare ineligible any person who has already been sanctioned by the Court of Auditors. This is the amendment proposed by the CDT parliamentary group to strengthen the fight against corruption and impunity.
The draft amendment of the CDT parliamentary group provides for the ineligibility of any elected person with "disciplinary records" at the Court of Auditors, reports the daily Al Massae. "It is unacceptable that a person who has been sanctioned by the Court of Auditors during the exercise of his responsibility in public management can run for election again," the trade unionists said.
Several human rights associations had reminded political parties of their duty to respect ethical and legal rules in order to fight all forms of corruption. This call followed the sponsorship, by certain political parties, of personalities suspected of corruption offenses and mentioned in reports from the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of the Interior, or of electoral corruption and subject to investigations by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ).
The CDT parliamentary group also proposed another amendment to prohibit the candidacy in elections of any person who has performed military service or undergone military training in a foreign country or a terrorist organization.
