Morocco’s Car Imports Plummet 45% Amid COVID-19 Economic Impact

The coronavirus has had a negative impact on passenger car imports by Moroccan companies. These imports have seen a sharp decline by the end of September 2020.
The drop in these imports has reached at least 45%, according to the Association of Importers of Assembled Automotive Vehicles (AIVAM). According to the organization, this underperformance is explained by the drop in car acquisition rates and the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on consumer purchasing power.
Passenger car imports by Moroccan companies recorded a decrease of 6.8 billion dirhams in the first nine months of the year, details AIVAM. Imports only reached 7.6 billion dirhams compared to 13.4 billion dirhams in the same period last year.
