Morocco Caps Prices on Face Masks and Hand Sanitizers to Combat Speculation

The government has decided to regulate the prices of health masks and hydroalcoholic gels. A measure intended to put an end to speculation.
In a press release, the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform indicates that this decision comes following a meeting of the Interministerial Commission on Prices, held on Saturday, March 14, under the chairmanship of the Department of General Affairs and Governance.
On this occasion, the status of the availability of health masks and hydroalcoholic gels and their selling prices was reviewed.
"In order to fight against speculation on the prices of these products, the government has decided to regulate their prices and control their distribution channels in order to make them available to citizens who need them," the ministry continues, specifying that the maximum prices will be published in the Official Bulletin on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.
Regarding the availability of the two products in the various dedicated sales outlets and the guarantee of their compliance with health standards, the government, through the relevant services, and in collaboration with professionals, is working to ensure the supply of the necessary quantities of health masks and hydroalcoholic gels, says the ministry. This, through the revitalization of local production and the acceleration of administrative import procedures.
