Morocco to Cap and Reduce COVID-19 Test Prices Following Government Meeting

The Ministry of Health, the Union of Medical Biologists, and other stakeholders are working to cap and reduce the prices of PCR tests and rapid Covid-19 tests, which are considered high. A ministerial decree will be issued in the coming days.
The Ministry of Health, the inter-ministerial commission in charge of monitoring prices, chaired by the Minister of Finance and including representatives from the Ministries of the Interior and Industry, participated last Friday in a meeting devoted to the modalities for reducing the prices of Covid tests. On this occasion, it was decided to cap the prices of the various PCR tests. "The majority of laboratories have expressed their willingness to lower these prices set in the past by the Ministry of Health," said Adnane Ghazali, president of the Syndicate Chamber of Biologists.
This decision will be effective after meetings between the Minister of Economy and Finance and the test importers next week. New rates will be set. Thus, the prices of PCR tests will drop from 700 DH to 400 DH, while the prices of antigen tests will drop to 200 DH and those of serological tests to 120 dirhams, details Adnane Ghazali. As for the prices of rapid tests, they will be set at 600 DH. A ministerial decree will set these new rates which will be adopted in the coming days.
