Morocco Cancels Eid al-Fitr Mosque Prayers Amid COVID-19 Concerns

Just like last year, the Eid al-Fitr prayer will not take place in mosques and musallas in Morocco. This is the decision made by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
The decision has finally been made. There will be no Eid al-Fitr prayer in mosques or musallas. Given the large influx of worshippers on this occasion, it becomes very difficult to impose social distancing rules in these times of the Covid-19 pandemic, explained the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
The same decision had been made last year for the same reason. This year, tarawih prayers were banned during Ramadan.
In Morocco, Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated this Thursday, May 13. The sighting of the crescent moon announcing the beginning of the month of Shawwal will take place on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.
