Morocco Calls for Transparent Investigation into Brahim Ghali Case, Hints at Regional Involvement

Fouad Yazough, ambassador and director general of political affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, is convinced that the Brahim Ghali affair has not finished revealing all its secrets. He calls for a "transparent investigation".
In a statement to the press, Fouad Yazough called for an investigation into the Brahim Ghali affair. "A hopefully transparent investigation should be conducted to shed full light on this case," he said. According to him, this investigation "is likely to reveal many surprises, including the complicity and interference of four generals from a Maghreb country."
"This information may surprise you, even shock the Spanish public opinion, but do not be surprised. As you know, the Moroccan services are among the most efficient," said the official. He is convinced that "more elements will be revealed in due course."
In addition to the deterioration of relations between Morocco and Spain in this affair, Fouad Yazough points out that the Spanish authorities have made a choice between, on the one hand, its citizens who are victims of abject crimes and, on the other hand, a criminal responsible for the death of several dozen Spaniards in addition to rapes, torture and disappearances. Based on this observation, he insists that Spain must provide explanations on the emergency admission of the Polisario leader to a hospital in Logroño, under the assumed name of Mohamed Ben Battouche, of Algerian nationality.
Moreover, "the Spaniards have the right to know, especially since the Spanish authorities and political class know that he (Brahim Ghali) is being prosecuted by Spanish citizens, before Spanish courts and for crimes partly committed in Spain," insisted the official.
