Morocco Buys $70 Million Israeli Electronic Warfare System, Countering Algerian Moves

Morocco has ordered electronic warfare (EW) and signals intelligence (SIGINT) "Alinet" solutions from the Israeli company Elbit Systems.
A contract of around $70 million that will be executed over a two-and-a-half-year period has been signed between the two parties. It is "a response from Morocco to the acquisition by its Algerian rival of the Chinese CEW-03A Mobile 6x6 system for EW truck, received in September to add to its Russian Krashuka-4 and Avtobaza EW systems," the company said.
"Under the contract, Elbit Systems will provide ground EW and SIGINT units equipped with electronic support, electronic countermeasures, as well as command and control systems. These units will create a complete passive air and ground picture and provide an electronic order of battle, enabling effective response to air and ground threats," the Israeli company said in a press release dated late June that referred to an "international customer".
The "Alinet" system is used to suppress the enemy’s air defenses by searching for radar signals and radio signals that can locate positions such as command posts. This information can be combined with the Bayraktar TB2 (Turkish) and Harop (Israeli) drones, two types of unmanned aerial vehicles already in service with the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).
