Morocco Busts Counterfeit Food Ring: 7 Arrested in Oujda for Relabeling Expired Products

Seven people were arrested by elements of the prefectural judicial police in Oujda. They are suspected of belonging to a criminal network specializing in the counterfeiting of commercial brands and the use of packaging unsuitable for health for the storage of food products.
The intervention was carried out simultaneously in five food storage warehouses and in a printing press in Oudja. This, thanks to information provided by the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, indicated the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a press release. During the search, large quantities of expired food and consumer products were found.
In the printing press, the expired products receive new packaging with new dates before being stored, in violation of the health and safety rules as required for the maintenance of these categories of food. Among the seized items are a computer, a set of fraudulent commercial brand stickers made in the printing press, packaging equipment and a sum of 290,000 dirhams.
Currently, the apprehended individuals aged between 27 and 48 years old are subject to a judicial investigation in order to shed light on this criminal activity, the DGSN points out, specifying that the investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
