Morocco Bus Companies Adjust Fares Amid New COVID-19 Restrictions

Authorized to operate again and to transport passengers on board, transport companies have announced revisions to their rates. While some have maintained this price increase, others have simply given up on it upon resumption.
From the resumption of their activities on June 25, 2020, some transport companies did not want to comply with the new specifications, issued by the health authorities, namely new sanitary conditions required in stations and buses and a reduction in the number of passengers corresponding to 50% of the capacity of the vehicles to respect physical distancing, reports Maroc Hebdo.
While some transport structures have accepted these new measures by imposing an exponential increase in fares, the most structured and organized companies, and which have a sufficient size to support such measures, like the CTM, and many others have decided to adopt the new system with nevertheless a slight increase in prices.
Unfortunately, these transport structures that have increased the fare do not offer the required comfort. They have for the most part old vehicles with completely worn-out bodywork, employ poorly paid drivers for extended working hours in addition to being unregistered with the CNSS. These vehicles are the cause of several traffic accidents.
With such flaws, the intercity transport sector still unfortunately gives the image of a devastated sector with considerable consequences on the economy, supports the same media.
