Morocco Builds 100-Bed Field Hospital in Agadir as COVID-19 Cases Surge

Faced with the surge in Covid-19 cases in the Souss-Massa region, the managers of the Hassan II Regional Hospital Center have decided to further strengthen the health offer in Agadir. Thus, a second [field hospital], intended for the management of contamination cases, is currently under construction.
With a capacity of 100 beds, this second operational unit has all the necessary equipment. It aims to support the efforts of the various stakeholders, in order to enhance the quality of care provided.
According to the data from the ministry, for more than four weeks, the indicators for monitoring the coronavirus epidemic have always been on the rise, bringing the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases during the last five days (from July 22 to 26) to 2,338 cases and 16 deaths at the level of the Souss-Massa Region, with 456 infections for the single day of Monday, July 26, 2021.
A situation that has led to the saturation of the intensive care services within the Hassan II Regional Hospital Center in Agadir, while the bed capacity of the field hospital is also on the verge of saturation, which has prompted the health authorities and the prefectural monitoring commission of Agadir-Ida Outanane to open a second field hospital for the management of Covid-19 cases.
