Morocco Braces for Potential Severe Second Wave of COVID-19, Health Expert Warns

Morocco is heading towards a second wave of contamination much more virulent than the first. These are the apprehensions of Dr. Tayeb Hamdi, doctor, researcher in health policies and systems and also vice-president of the National Federation of Health.
Moroccans will have to face another phase of total confinement. This will be as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. According to the doctor, if we are not careful, this second wave that is looming could be relentless. "We have entered another phase of the pandemic and new behaviors are necessary." The coming days are likely to be trying in terms of contamination. For Dr. Tayeb Hamdi "seasonal flu and other seasonal respiratory infections will have to complicate the situation and burden health facilities," reports Hespress.
The vice-president of the National Federation of Health stressed that it is important to react in time to avoid even more serious consequences than those encountered so far. "Collapse simply means that citizens suffering from respiratory distress, who are in critical condition, cannot be admitted to the hospital or intensive care due to lack of beds. This applies to covid cases as well as to other cases, such as stroke, heart attacks, accidents. This situation is as unimaginable as it is dangerous," he argued.
The doctor specifies that it is not just a health issue but a matter of security and stability for the whole country. "We cannot afford to go in that direction, because we will leave lives, the economy, education and social life, with a much longer and slower recovery period than would have been the case if we had planned the shutdown," the same source indicates.
