The Eid Al Mawlid festival, which coincides with the school holidays, could cause an explosion of Covid-19 cases. According to Tayeb Hamdi, a researcher in Health Policy, Moroccans could be subject to a "relaxed lockdown".

The specter of a peak in the spread of the coronavirus looms over Morocco, especially since several Moroccan families have expressed their intention to travel. This is evidenced by the bus and train stations, which have started to welcome more and more travelers. Strict control measures at the entrances and exits of cities. In Rabat, for example, the checkpoints have been multiplied to ensure the identity of the passengers and verify if the visitors from the confined cities have the exceptional authorization to travel, reports L’Opinion.

The Moroccan authorities fear a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases in Morocco with the travel that the Eid Al Mawlid festival and the school holidays would entail. The memory of the celebration of Eid Al Adha, which propelled Morocco to the 200,000 case mark, is still vivid.

The coming days are likely to be very difficult. According to Tayeb Hamdi, the toll of infections and the mortality rate are likely to skyrocket. "In the current conditions, it is expected that we will see a multiplication of deaths that can reach 150 cases per day, unless drastic measures such as confinement are taken," the same source specifies.
